Said links do make a fair bit of sense, though, as Thomas Tuchel’s side are in desperate need of another centre-back or two before the season stars but are not having the best of luck in the recruitment department.
Early on in the window Chelsea were linked with Nathan Ake and Matthijs de Ligt. However, a deal for Ake fell through and De Ligt is now a Bayern Munich player.
And more recently, the west Londoners did appear to be closing in on Sevilla’s Jules Kounde for the second summer in a row. However, FC Barcelona now look set to win that race.
This has led to Chelsea being linked with a few somewhat surprising names.
Firstly, it has being claimed that Chelsea are interested in Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana.
The defender had a superb 2020/21 but this past campaign was derailed by a pre-season injury.

Elsewhere, French outfit L’Equipe report that Chelsea are interested in signing Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile, who is also wanted by other clubs, including Sevilla as Kounde’s replacement.
A potential transfer fee is provided for Badiashile, with Monaco said to want at least €50m for the defender.
Finally, Presnel Kimpembe has been linked with Chelsea for much of the summer, but there is no fresh update on that front.
