Match preview

Heart of Midlothian always knew the Europa Conference League group stages were going to be tough, but they endured a serious reality check on Thursday night.

In their group opener, Hearts were hammered 4-0 by Turkish outfit İstanbul Başakşehir at Tynecastle.

This means the Jambos have lost all three European matches this season; they’d previously lost both legs of their Europa League play-off against Zürich.

On Thursday, the Jambos face the group’s minnows RFS, although the Latvian club just battled to a 1-1 draw with Fiorentina in Italy last week.

Before that trip to Riga, Robbie Neilson’s side will look to get back to winning ways in the Premiership.

Last weekend, Hearts were beaten 1-0 by Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

St Mirren though will fancy their chances of a victory in Gorgie.

The Buddies had won three on the bounce, before last weekend’s 3-0 thumping at McDiarmid Park against St Johnstone.

So, having won three and lost three, Stephen Robinson’s side are sixth, knowing a victory would see them leapfrog their hosts.
