Kilmarnock vs Hibernian match preview
It’s the start of a new era for Hibernian.
Hibs began the season with three successive Premiership defeats while, in Europe, after victories over Inter Club d’Escaldes and Luzern, they were then embarrassingly demolished 8-0 on aggregate by Aston Villa.
Following the 3-2 home defeat against Livi three weeks ago, Lee Johnson was sacked and, during the international break, his successor was found, namely Nick Montgomery.
In his only management role, so far, Montgomery led Central Coast Mariners to last season’s A-League title, with a certain Jason Cummings bagging a hat-trick in the Grand Final hammering of Melbourne City.
Montgomery though has a big task on his hands in Edinburgh, taking over a side currently tenth.
Although, the Hibees’ outlook on things did significantly improve 13 days ago when, led by interim boss David Gray, they beat Aberdeen 2-0, accumulating their first points of the season.
So, will Montgomery reign as Hibs boss begin with a win?
This though will not be an easy fixture, given that Kilmarnock have already beaten both Rangers in the Premiership and Celtic in the League Cup at home this season.
Coming into this one however, Derek McInnes’ men have suffered back-to-back defeats, with their 1-0 home loss to Ross County before the international break certainly controversial.
Killie were denied an equaliser, because the referee had already blown his whistle to award a penalty, with this misjudgment compounded by the fact Danny Armstrong saw the subsequent spot-kick saved.
So, will Kilmarnock get back to winning ways at Rugby Park, or will Hibs climb away from the bottom two?
