It’s eighth against 10th in Serie A this weekend as Juventus welcomes Empoli to the Allianz Stadium on Friday night with Max Allegri potentially just one more game away from facing the sack if he cannot get all three points in yet another Serie A game.
Juventus have been diabolical by their own standards. The club have found themselves struggling to advance in their Champions League group and now sit eighth in Serie A too. In fact, they sit an almighty 10 points behind the league leaders Napoli and six behind third-placed champions, AC Milan.
Allegri is quite fortunate to still be in the job at this stage in the season after such a poor start sees the club score only 13 goals so far, with four wins, four draws and two losses. The Turin outfit did reign supreme in a local derby last time out, however, as Dusan Vlahovic scored the game’s only goal when they managed to beat Torino away from home. On the other hand, just prior to this, the Old Lady lost 2-0 to Milan and then 2-0 to Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League in what was the biggest upset of the European season so far.
As for Empoli, they returned to winning ways last time out when they defeated Monza thanks to a goal from Nicolas Haas in the first half. The club are now 10th in the league, five behind Juventus and sit with just nine goals scored to this point in the league. What’s more, with 11 goals let in, they have a better defensive record than Inter Milan who sit seventh.
Juventus, however, cannot afford to lose this one.
