Kyle Walker was recently injured for Manchester City and was expected to miss the 2022 World Cup.

Given Walker can play right-back or as a right centre-back in a three, he was crucial to Gareth Southgate’s plans.

The injury to Walker became an even bigger blow when Reece James was injured vs AC Milan and he too is expected to miss the World Cup.

This would leave just Kieran Trippier and the out-of-form Trent Alexander-Arnold as England right-backs, neither of who can play as a RCB.

Now, however, there is hope that Walker will be back in time to feature in some capacity at the World Cup, though likely not in the opening game vs Iran.

The Daily Mail report: “Walker is almost two weeks into his recovery from groin surgery and is in a race against time to be fit for the tournament that starts in little over four weeks time.

“It seems unlikely that Walker will be available for the opening game against Iran on November 21, but he could be selected with a view to playing a part in the latter stages of the tournament.”
