So far this summer, the main player Manchester United have been pursuing is Mason Mount of Chelsea.

The forward only has one year left on his Chelsea contract and fell out of favour in the second half of 2022/23.

Manchester United have tabled three bids for Mount so far, but United’s 3rd bid for Mount, tabled on Friday afternoon, has been rejected.

The offer in question consisted of a base fee of £50 million, followed by a further £5 million in bonuses, but Chelsea want £58 million with £7 million in add-ons.

Now, BBC Sport have provided an update on the situation, claiming that Manchester United remain convinced Mason Mount wants to join them from Chelsea, but are refusing to get embroiled in negotiations over what they view as a ‘United tax’.

It is added that United feel the aforementioned £58 million price is too much and out of line with Chelsea’s own £50m transfer of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City last summer.
