Two sides who have had entirely contrasting starts to the 2022/23 Serie A season will meet at the Brianteo Stadium this Monday night with Monza playing hosts to third-placed Atalanta as they search for their first-ever Serie A win.
After so long in Serie B and year in the third tier too, Monza have been welcomed into the top flight of Italian football with an almighty reality check. Ahead of this one, the club sit bottom of the table and don’t have a single point on the board and have in fact only scored just twice in the league. This means Monza are the lowest-scoring side in the division as well as being the worst defensive side in Serie A too with 11 goals conceded.
Monza lost to Roma 3-0 lost time out, but as this was on Tuesday, the club have had longer to rest than anyone else with a six-day break. However, with further losses to Torino and Udinese as well as a 4-0 demolition from Napoli, it’s doubtful an extra day of rest will do anything to them here.
Atalanta, however, look back to their best as they sit third in Serie A and without a loss on the board so far. In fact, only them, Napoli, the Milan outfits and Juventus sit unbeaten, but with just two goals conceded as well, no side in the league has a better defensive record early on.
Atalanta defeated Torino 3-1 last time out, not long after registering victories against Samprdoria and Hellas Verona where they did not concede and scored a combined three goals. They did also take the league against the champions AC Milan, before a 1-1 draw.
