Brennan Johnson completed a £45million move to Tottenham before Friday’s transfer deadline from Nottingham Forest.
On paper, Johnson is expected to play up front in competition with Richarlison but he is not exactly a like-for-like replacement for Harry Kane.
Johnson is a decent goalscorer but has never reached the top level when it comes to Premier League strikes.
So why did Tottenham spend so much on him?
Ange Postecoglou answered this question over the weekend:
“He’s just another exciting young player,” Postecoglou told reporters.
“It’s just as much about the person as well as the footballer, and looking at him he’s going to fit in really well with this group. He’s ambitious and hungry and wants to take his game to the next level.
“The technical and the physical attributes he has, he should fit in really well.”
