The future of Dutch starlet Xavi Simons looks to be up in the air at PSV Eindhoven after the 20-year-old has yet to decide on his future amid changes at Philips Stadion.

Boeren finished second behind rivals Feyenoord Rotterdam during the 2022-23 Eredivisie campaign, with Simons vital to their efforts across all fronts while bagging 19 goals and adding 9 assists in the league, as well as stringing together impressive performances in the Europa League.

But changes at the club could see Simons potentially depart the Netherlands this summer after manager and former PSV star striker Ruud van Nistelrooij walked away from his post, as well as the possible pull from forces outside of the nation’s borders from both Paris and London.

Simons, who graduated from Paris Saint-Germain’s youth academy after first spending nine years in the fold at Barcelona’s La Masia pipeline, left the city of lights due to a lack of chances in the first team. He could be set for a return, however, after Lionel Messi departed for MLS outfit Inter Miami and residual uncertainty surrounding the future of Neymar.

Premier League runner-up Arsenal has also been credited with an interest in the versatile Dutch attacker as Mikel Arteta and club technical director Edu Gaspar consider moving into the market to bolster the forward line at the Emirates.

Should Van Nistelrooij’s replacement not inspire on the home front, there is a real possibility that the Netherlands could once again be set to lose one of its brightest young talents to bigger fish.
