Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has divulged just what was discussed during his meeting with Old Trafford great Sir Alex Ferguson after a picture of the two at dinner went viral on social media.

The most successful manager in Premier League history, Ferguson has continued to wield an influence over the Red Devils since his retirement, and even personally recommended David Moyes as his successor, while he is regularly spotted at games at Old Trafford.

And, ahead of a crucial week for Manchester United in which they play two knockout games and a cup final, the legend was spotted lending his wisdom to the latest man in the Old Trafford hotseat, as he shared dinner with Ten Hag.

Speaking about the interaction ahead of the second leg clash with Barcelona, Ten Hag revealed just how important that meeting was, and what was discussed.

“It’s massive,” said the Dutchman. “I always enjoy speaking with people who have a lot of knowledge, a lot of experience.

“He wants to share it, he wants to help and support. He feels Manchester United is his club and he feels so committed.

United play host to Barcelona on Thursday night with the tie perfectly poised at 2-2, before heading to Wembley to face a Newcastle United without either of their two first-choice goalkeepers in the Carabao Cup final.

They then return to Old Trafford for an all-Premier League FA Cup fifth round tie with West Ham, before rounding out a hectic 10 days with a trip to Anfield to take on midtable Liverpool.
