Match Preview

It’s been a topsy-turvy start to the 2022/23 season for Sampdoria and they come into the trip to Salernitana with a win, a draw and a loss in all competitions so far just as the home side remain winless ahead of this one.

Salernitana haven’t had the easiest of starts to the new season, and off the back of avoiding relegation by just one point last season, fears have already kicked in surrounding another relegation fight this campaign. The club won just seven games all season long in 2021/22, conceding the most goals in the league with 78.

Salernitana met with Parma in the Coppa Italia to kick off their new season, and a 2-0 loss to the Serie B side would be met with a 1-0 defeat to Roma on the opening weekend in Serie A. A goalless draw with Udinese would follow, meaning just one point on the board after two games for them.

Things have looked a little better for Sampdoria, however, who have so far played all three games at home this season. In the league, a 2-0 loss to Atalanta and a commendable 0-0 draw with Juventus leaves them in 16th after two games.

The club did manage to beat Reggina in the Coppa Italia, however, with Abdelhamid Sabiri’s goal being the difference in them heading through to the next round in what was a close game against the Serie B side.

Neither team have looked threatening in front of goal, and this game could be one that lacks a lot of goals based on their starts to the season so far.
