Udinese will head on the road to meet with Sampdoria at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium this Sunday afternoon with the home side on a losing run of three games once more while the Udine outfit are winless since action in Italy resumed.
There was a belief in Italy that the break for the World Cup could hamper some teams’ progression in Serie A this season and Udinese were right in that category. The club sat fourth back in late October but moved down into sixth before the World Cup break.
This excellent form that gave them hope of a return to Europe has all but disappeared since the league continued at the start of the month, as Udinese have drawn 1-1 with Empoli at the Dacia Arena before a 1-0 defeat to Juventus in Turin.
Another 2-1 loss at home to Bologna has moved the club into eighth and with a gap of nine points on sixth-placed Atalanta.
As for Sampdoria, they looked as if they could put together a positive run of results to move them out of the bottom three when they beat Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium 2-1.
Dejan Stanković’s side have since lost to Napoli in Serie A and got knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Fiorentina. Sampdoria also lost to Empoli on Monday night to throw them back into 19th.
