Two sides in the bottom half will meet here as Spezia clash with Bologna where the away side head into the game winless after a dreadful run of form early on with Spezia so far recording one win in the league ahead of a meeting at the Stadio Alberto Picco.
Bologna managed to register another 1-1 draw in midweek as Mark Arnautovic’s goal was enough to get a point after a late equaliser from Salernitana at the Renato Dall-Ara, with the Austrian scoring his second of the campaign, both of which have been penalties. This is off the back of a 2-0 loss for Bologna away to champions AC Milan, which now keeps them down in 16th ahead of this game and winless in Serie A.
In some ways, the start to the season for Spezia hasn’t been so bad and they will be pleased at racking up four points from the 12 so far. At the same time, the club’s only defeats so far have been to the title contenders this campaign, so they can be pleased with some aspects of the season. What’s more, after a gap of just six points from relegation last time out, a gap of two points after four games is worth shouting about.
Spezia do still need to get another three points in the bag in order to remain away from early relegation fears. Currently, the club have only managed to beat only Empoli in the league after M’Bala Nzola scored the winning goal in the first game of the campaign.
On the other hand, their 2-2 draw against Sassuolo last weekend did put a downer on things, although Simone Bastoni did manage to score his forest goal of the season, as Nzola scored yet again. Albin Ekdal was also sent off in that game and is still suspended with his one-match ban.
