Udinese are aiming to stay in the top eight this weekend when they play hosts to the improved Sassuolo at the Dacia Arena off the back of two very contrasting restarts to action in Italy for the two.
Earlier in the campaign, it looked as if Udinese would end up fighting for a European spot. Now, even with Juventus’ points deduction, the Udine side are in eighth and way adrift of the Europa League.
This comes off the back of beating only Sampdoria since the resumption of Serie A after the World Cup, with Bologna, Juventus and Torino taking all three points off them around draws with Hellas Verona and Empoli.
They are behind sixth-placed AC Milan by eight points now and only ahead of Juventus in 10th by three points and Bologna in ninth by goals difference. Nevertheless, besides the Old Lady, Udinese have the best goals difference record outside of the top six.
Sassuolo are in stunning form from out of nowhere. It did look as if Alessio Dionisi was going to see his side in a relegation fight, but seven points from the last nine have moved them nine clear of the drop.
This has seen them edge past Atalanta, draw with Monza and smash Milan 5-2 at the San Siro.
