Arsenal loan watch week 8: Patino, Norton-Cuffy, Pepe, Biereth and more

A total of 16 Arsenal loanees were in action across 11 divisions over the weekend.

Balogun continued to find himself on the scoresheet, while Patino, Norton-Cuffy and Okonkwo all impressed for their respective sides.

Folarin Balogun (Arsenal)

The standout loanee at present, Balogun is continuing to repay Reims’ faith in him as he found the net for the sixth time this season, to take his tally to eight goal contributions in nine Ligue 1 outings.

Despite his finish, his 10 man Reims side were held to a 2-2 draw with Troyes, leaving them with just one win to their name so far this season.

Charlie Patino (Blackpool)

Tyreece John-Jules (Ipswich Town)

John-Jules played 73 minutes for the Tractor Boys as his side won a five goal thriller 3-2 against Portsmouth, keeping them in second place and just a point behind leaders Plymouth Argyle.

The Englishman played a pivotal role in the first goal for the East Anglian side, winning the ball back in midfield to carve out the chance for Marcus Harness.

Brooke Norton-Cuffy (Rotherham United)

Norton-Cuffy returned to fitness over the international break and played 90 minutes for the managerless Millers but could not help his side from falling to a 2-0 defeat at home to Wigan Athletic.

His performance stood out, however, as he was awarded the man of the match by the Millers faithful with 83% of the online vote.

The official Rotherham website wrote that “the England youth international proved to be a thorn in the side of the Tics all afternoon, causing problems with his quick feet and athleticism to glide past defenders like they weren’t there, hammering the Wigan box with dangerous crosses throughout the afternoon”.

Nicolas Pepe (OGC Nice)

Nicolas Pepe was dropped to the bench and came on as a second half substitute for Nice against PSG, but could not stop them falling to a 2-1 defeat.

Pablo Mari (Monza)

Mari continues to marshall the Monza defence well, winning all seven of his duels as he helped them defeat Sampdoria 3-0, taking them out of the relegation zone in the process.

Arthur Okonkwo (Crewe Alexandra)

Okonkwo kept another clean sheet as Crewe drew to Carlisle in a mid-table League Two clash. In a game of few chances, the on loan keeper made three saves to keep parity, and ensure another point for his side.

Auston Trusty (Birmingham City)

Trusty played 90 minutes as Birmingham shared the spoils with Sheffield United courtesy of a 1-1 draw in the Championship. The USA international won all of his three tackles and five of his 12 duels in an all-action defensive display.

Marcelo Flores (Real Oviedo)

Flores lasted just 45 minutes for Oviedo against FC Cartegena, being taken off at half time with his side 2-0 down.

Despite this, his father took to Twitter to describe the short cameo as “one of the best performances he’s had in Oviedo”, with the 19-year-old playing from the left flank and managing a shot and creating a chance.

Miguel Azeez (Ibiza)

Azeez was a second-half substitute for Ibiza as they survived a late scare to see off Lugo 3-2, with the Arsenal loanee managing to maintain a 100% pass accuracy when he came on but not doing much else.

Runar Alex Runarsson (Alanyaspor)

Runarsson made five saves as he helped his side to a 1-1 draw with Giresunspor in a midtable clash in Turkey.

Mika Biereth (RKC Waalwijk)

Biereth was a late substitute for Waalwijk in their 2-2 draw with Sparta Rotterdam, coming on for the final four minutes for just his second appearance of 2022.

Tim Akinola (Chesterfield)

Akinola was a late substitute for Chesterfield as they fell to their first defeat of the season, 2-1 at the hands of Maidenhead.

Harry Clarke (Stoke City)

Clarke marked his return from a shin injury for the Potters, playing the final 13 minutes of their 4-0 hammering at the hands of Watford.

Omar Rekik (Sparta Rotterdam)

Rekik entered the fray at the same time as Biereth in the clash between their two sides, coming on to ensure that Rotterdam held onto a point.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Southampton)

Maitland-Niles lasted just over an hour for Southampton, playing in his favoured central midfield role, but could not stop his side from slipping to a 2-1 defeat to Everton, with the pressure now mounting on the Saints who find themselves just a point above the relegation zone.

Unused/not in squad

Nuno Tavares (Marseille)

Tavares was suspended for Marseilles due to an accumulation of bookings and was forced to watch his side’s win over Angers to keep them second in Ligue 1 and just two points off leaders Paris Saint Germain.

Mazeed Ogungbo (Crawley Town)

Ogungbo was an unused substitute as Crawley fell to another defeat, this time 2-1 to Stevenage to leave them hovering above the drop zone solely by a superior goal difference to Hartlepool.

Ryan Alebiosu (Kilmarnock)

Alebiosu was absent as his side were thrashed 4-1 by Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

Nikolaj Moller (FC Den Bosch)

Moller was left out of the Den Bosch squad for his side’s 2-1 defeat to Heracles.

Ovie Ejeheri (Chelmsford City)

Ejeheri was an unused substitute for Chelmsford’s 5-0 FA Cup win over Romford.

Alex Kirk (Ayr United)

Kirk was an unused substitute as Ayr fell to a 1-0 defeat against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Championship.

Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand (Hull City)

Salah is still waiting to make his Tigers debut.
