On-loan defender Nuno Tavares has slammed Arsenal for not allowing current club Marseille to have an option to buy the player at the end of his spell in France,
The Portuguese defender has enjoyed a strong start to life in France, scoring three times in six appearances from his left wing-back role, and seems to be enjoying the extra freedom that he has been given in the South of France.

Before he ultimately joined Marseille, Tavares was also close to a switch to Atalanta earlier in the summer, only for a deal to fall through as the Italian side wanted an option to buy the defender at the end of his loan spell, something that the French side agreed to forego.
Now, Tavares has slammed Arsenal for not letting Marseille include one, admitting that he had been pushing for one all summer.
“At Arsenal, I do not know if it was a problem of competition with Kieran Tierney, but for me, that’s not even the point”, he told RMC.
“I came to Marseille to finally be able to play in my position. When signing with OM, I wanted to have an option to buy, but Arsenal refused. With my agents, we always wanted this purchase option, but Arsenal didn’t.
Of course, Arsenal have previous with Marseille, having loaned William Saliba last season and having seen plenty of noise from both player and French media about the centre-back wanting to stay in France.
Having come back to Arsenal, he has nailed down a spot in the first XI, and has impressed in his six Arsenal outings thus far.
