Barcelona’s newest star Robert Lewandowski has set a new record during his side’s 5-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League group opener at the Camp Nou, netting a European hat-trick at the first attempt for his new side.
Fellow new signing Franck Kessie got Xavi’s side up and running in the opening quarter of an hour, turning home after good work from Jules Kounde, yet another summer addition.
However, it was then all about Lewandowski, as the Polish forward netted a hat-trick in half an hour either side of half-time, taking the score to 4-1 for the Catalan giants.
And, in ensuring his side took a vital three points in a tricky Champions League group also including fellow European giants Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, the former Bayern man notched up another new record in a glittering career.

In fact, the veteran forward became the first ever player to net a hat-trick for three different clubs, having also notched three goals during his time at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
He moves ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, Filippo Inzaghi and Neymar, all of whom have managed to grab hat-tricks for two different sides.
