Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo has admitted that ‘it’d be a dream’ to rejoin Graham Potter at Chelsea in the future after his former boss opened his managerial account for the Blues in the Champions League.

The 20-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder has taken his chance in the Brighton engine room, filling in for the now departed Yves Bissouma, and has been a revelation at the Amex Stadium in the latter part of last and the beginning of this season.

Only arriving at the club in January, Caicedo has already racked up 16 appearances for the Seagulls, in which time he has managed two goals and two assists, while his performances have caught the eye of Europe’s elite sides.

Liverpool were thought to be interested in adding the midfielder to their ranks in the summer, and reportedly even tabled a £42m offer for his services late in the transfer window.

Now, Caicedo has admitted that if his former boss did come calling for his services, he would struggle to say no to Chelsea.

“Right now I’m very focused on Brighton and the World Cup. I want to have a great World Cup and then we’ll see what happens”, he told Ole.

On Potter specifically, he added that “it made me very sad now that he left for Chelsea, because he helped me a lot and I wanted to continue having him as a manager, but that’s football,”

Too high a price tag?

Potter has somewhat backed himself into a corner over any potential deal for Caicedo, however, with his recent comments over Liverpool’s interest. Quizzed on the potential £42m bid from Liverpool, Potter quipped that any bid of that level was likely only to buy his boots.

“I think you’d probably get his boots for that, maybe, knowing the chairman! It’s not for me to talk about. It is what it is”, he joked.

Should Caicedo have a strong World Cup showing, then he may quickly end up out of a lot of clubs’ price range.
