Brazilian midfielder Casemiro has taken to social media to pen a heartfelt farewell to Real Madrid and their fans ahead of his proposed switch to Manchester United.
The 30-year-old joined the club in 2013 from Brazilian outfit Sao Paulo, and was quick to make his mark on the Madrid midfield, becoming renowned for his no-nonsense approach to anchoring the Los Blancos midfield.
Nine years, five Champions League trophies and three La Liga wins later, however, he has opted for a new challenge, and is set to join Manchester United in a deal worth up to £70m in the coming days.
He will pen a four-year deal at Old Trafford, with the option of a fifth year should things go well, and will link up with former teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane, both of whom were signed last summer.
His addition will quell some of the anger felt towards the current Manchester United owners, but there is still protests planned ahead of the clash with Liverpool on Monday night, which Casemiro himself is unlikely to be available for.

‘I hope to return’
Now, taking to social media, Casemiro has moved to thank the fans and express his desire to return to the Santiago Berrnabeu at some point in the future, though that looks likely to be in a more off-the-pitch role than on it.
He vivido la historia más maravillosa que jamás pensé. Espero volver algún día a la que siempre será mi casa. Ni en mil vidas podré devolveros al @realmadrid y al madridismo todo lo que me habéis dado. Por siempre… ¡Hala Madrid! 🤍💜 pic.twitter.com/VH91DA3HJW
