Fred has come in for heavy criticism during his time in Manchester and sometimes that criticism is very much warranted.
However, it is also worth noting that United’s transfer failings over the last several years have not exactly helped out Fred.
The Red Devils have been crying out for a defensive midfielder for years, and have only just signed one in Casemiro.
Before that, though, it was largely left to Fred and Scott McTominay, neither of which are no.6s, the act as defensive mids.
But now Casemiro is at United, perhaps we will finally see a new side of Fred. The Brazilian’s next outing is likely to come vs Liverpool on Monday.
Ahead of that game, Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has been defending Fred from criticism:
“In general Manchester United have not been successful in the last seasons so you try to find a solution or you try to put the fault on some of the players and sometimes I think Fred is that player.
“But he is a good player, in the national team, he is always a starter, he always plays good and, yes, sometimes the player needs a little bit more confidence to play good.
“Last season he played really good football, maybe he was one of the best United players. This season United didn’t start really good but I hope Fred will play good and United will stay playing like this.”
