Chelsea have confirmed their fourth signing of the summer, with Carney Chukwuemeka joining the club in a £20m deal from Aston Villa.

The English young talent, who featured in the team of the tournament at the U19 European Championships this summer, has penned a six year deal at Stamford Bridge, and will join up with the first team for the new season.

‘It’s been quite hectic but I couldn’t get Chelsea out of my head the last few days so I’m just happy and relieved that it’s all done.’I’m so excited and just can’t wait to get on the pitch, meet all the players and try to win games and trophies with Chelsea’, he told the club’s website.

Club owner Todd Boehly added: ‘Carney is one of the most exciting young players in Europe so we are really looking forward to seeing him in action at Stamford Bridge. We are delighted to be able to bring him to Chelsea and add such a talented young individual to our squad for the new season and beyond.’

It continues Chelsea’s youthful recruitment drive, with Omari Hutchinson having joined from Arsenal’s U23 side and Gabriel Slolina arriving from the MLS, both of whom are under 20-years-old.

‘We are building for both the now and the future so signing one of the hottest teenage talents in English football fits with both those aims. Chelsea have shown that young potential can be fulfilled at this club and under our ownership we are determined this will continue. We are looking forward to Carney thriving here’, explained co-controlling owners Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano.

More to come from Chelsea

The Blues are also keen to strengthen in central defence, with Wesley Fofana chief among their targets and one bid already turned down for the centre-back.

Meanwhile, they are holding conversations with Frenkie de Jong over a potential move to Stamford Bridge, and they have also been in contact with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang about a return to London, this time in blue.
