Gavi was named the winner of the 2022 Golden Boy award last month. He was then presented with the award on November 7 in Turin.

Gavi beat off competition from the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Eduardo Camavinga of Real Madrid to bag his second individual award within a week after winning the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or award ceremony.

The Golden Boy award is given out to the best under-21 player in European and has been won previously by the likes of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

On winning the Golden Boy award, Gavi told Mundo Deportivo: “It is a source of pride to take over from Pedri and receive awards that Messi, who is a great reference and, for me, the best player in history, also won.”

The previous winner of the award was a teammate of Gavi’s at Barcelona, Pedri.

On his midfield partner, Gavi had this to say: “What can I tell you about Pedri, he is a phenomenon that helps me a lot and I am very grateful to him.”

“The league is very long and there is a long way to go, but being leaders at the World Cup break gives us peace of mind and motivates us for what will come next,” he said.
