Ronaldo made clear his desire to leave Manchester United for a Champions League club this summer.
However, owing to his age and sizable wage packet, CR7 is yet to find any Champions League side that actually wants to sign him this summer.
This led to Manchester United allowing Ronaldo to return to training last weekend for their final friendly of the season.
Ronaldo only managed 45 minutes of action. As a result, it was not that surprising to see the Portuguese on the bench this past weekend for United’s clash with Brighton.
The Reds lost the tie 2-1, but did look a much better side once Cristiano Ronaldo came on.
Now, following the game, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing how Ronaldo is not the main problem at United currently:
“Internally, Manchester United confirm that Cristiano started the game on the bench because his physical condition is not yet 100%. It was not for market reasons, but certainly the situation remains open and will depend on any proposals in the next weeks. Jorge Mendes keeps working behind the scenes, while Cristiano is training professionally.
“I believe that the Ronaldo saga is not the main problem for United, rather the need for 4-5 new signings compared to last season. Of course, it’s a story that generates a lot of headlines, but it’s clear from looking at the team on the pitch yesterday that there are bigger issues.”
