A major update on the managerial situation at Championship outfit Wigan Athletic has been forthcoming on Friday evening.
Those of a Latics persuasion will of course be all too well aware of the precarious situation in the dugout at the DW Stadium at present.
This comes after head coach Leam Richardson was sent on his way earlier this month.
Bizarrely, just weeks on from rewarding the club’s boss with a new long-term contract, the powers that be at Wigan opted to sack Richardson with immediate effect, owing to a run of six defeats from seven.
Assistant manager Rob Kelly, in turn, took charge of the Latics’ meeting with Blackpool last weekend and, to his credit, guided the club to a crucial three points amid their ongoing battle against the drop.
A permanent instillation on the bench in England’s northwest, though, is nevertheless imminent.
As per a host of reliable sources late on Friday, ex-Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City defender Toure is expected to be unveiled as the new man in charge at the DW over the coming days.
This comes after brother Yaya Toure opted to reject the approaches of the Latics last week.
The 41-year-old will take his managerial talents to the Championship after honing his craft behind the scenes with all of the Ivory Coast, Celtic and, most recently, Leicester City.
Kolo Toure is close to being confirmed as the new manager of Wigan. It is believed that Yaya Toure rejected the chance to take the job last week. (@SkySportsNews)
