Former England striker Michael Owen has revealed that he is ‘worried’ about Frank Lampard’s Everton and their survival hopes this season, citing a lack of goals as a reason that their fortunes will not improve this season.
The Toffees were fortunate to hold onto a 1-1 draw against Brentford, courtesy of Anthony Gordon’s fifth goal of his fledgling Premier League career eventually being cancelled out by Vitaly Janelt at the Brentford Community Stadium, and look light in their forward line.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed much of last season and is expected to miss at least another two weeks of this campaign, with the Englishman becoming increasingly unreliable. Meanwhile, last season’s top goalscorer Richarlison was sold to Tottenham for £60m earlier in the summer.
The club have announced the arrival of Neil Maupay from Brighton, but the Frenchman has scored just 8 times in each of the past two seasons, and has never managed to hit double figures of non-penalty goals in the top flight.

Meanwhile, last season Demarai Gray, Andros Townsend and Solomon Rondon managed just 9 Premier League goals between them, while new signing Dwight McNeil didn’t register a goal across the 21-22 campaign.
And Michael Owen believes that this is going to be a serious problem for Frank Lampard’s side.
“It’s going to big test for Frank Lampard. When you look at their team, there is nobody who’s going to score 10 goals.”
Currently winless after four games, having picked up two draws and suffered two defeats, it is hard to disagree with the former striker, and it is clear where Everton’s priorities lie heading into the final days of the transfer window.
They need a goalscorer.
