Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz could yet leave the midlands club between now and the transfer deadline in just over 24 hours time, with the Brazilian having one year left on his contract with Steven Gerrard’s side.

The midfielder has been linked with Liverpool, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid in recent weeks and months, and has made it clear that he will not be signing a new deal at Villa Park, meaning that this is the club’s final chance to cash in on him.

Should an interested party come forward, Goal Brasil report that they could land a bargain, with Villa willing to accept between 12m and 15m euros (£10.3-£13m) for the 24-year-old.

Luiz has only started once in the first four games of the season for Steven Gerrard’s side, coming on as a substitute in a further two, and has only racked up 91 minutes of action thus far.

Asked about his contract situation back in July, Villa boss Gerrard said: “He’s playing well, he’s working hard. We totally respect Douglas’s situation, I love him as a player.”

“He’s been absolutely fine and professional. There’s no issues from me. We’ll play that one by ear week to week but, yeah, there’s nothing really to say because we haven’t had an offer and, at the moment, he’s got a year left.”

Should that prove complicated, it is possible that they could consider a deadline day swoop for Luis an easy deal to complete.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are in the market for a midfielder in the final hours of the window,, but added: “The closer we get to the last minute, the more unlikely it gets. That’s how it is. We are not ‘out’. I couldn’t [tell you a name] even if I wanted. It’s difficult. We will see. There’s time.”
