How much Manchester United will lose from failing to get Champions League football next season

Failure to qualify will hit the Red Devils in the pockets as well as on the pitch

For Manchester United, Champions League football seems a long way away right now. In fact, Championship football is closer, with the Red Devils currently bottom of the Premier League having lost games to Brighton and Brentford in a less than ideal start to Erik ten Hag’s reign at the club.

They are of course highly unlikely to get relegated (though never say never in football), but unless reinforcements arrive soon, United are looking a longshot for Champions League football next season, after only just scraping Europa League football for this season.

The club are currently 7/1 to finish in the top 4, and also 7/1 to win the Europa League, which represent their two routes back into the Champions League for the 2023/24 season.

They are, of course, trying to change that, with moves for a whole host of players in the works and the club linked with plenty more.

United to lose out on £23m

Should, as seem likely, the Red Devils fail to qualify for Champions League football this season, they will stand to lose £22.5m from kit sponsor Adidas, as per the deal that they agreed with the fashion giant in 2021.

Two seasons in a row out of Europe’s Premier competition allows Adidas to reduce their sponsorship by 30%, and any further failures to do so would continue to keep the fee at a new, lower level.
