Premier League action, of course, also means millions of players will be setting up their Fantasy Premier League side for the forthcoming action.

One of the most important aspects of FPL is picking your captain each week. Whoever you select as your captain with earn double their standard score, or triple it if you choose to play your triple captain chip, which you can do once per season.

But deciding on your captain each week can be a very tough decision that can make or break your game week.

With this in mind, 101GreatGoals will be providing you with an insight into the best captain picks for every game week this season.

Best FPL captains gameweek 5

Mohamed Salah vs Wolves (12.5)

Mohamed Salah’s fine form has continued into the 2023/24 campaign despite transfer speculation for the last month or so.

He has scored two and assisted two in four games and now faces an out-of-form Wolves this week.

Heung-min Son vs Sheffield United (9.1)

Heung-min Son is something of a risky pick this week and there may be an element of recency bias when it comes to captaining the South Korean.

Son scored a hat-trick vs Burnley in gameweek 4 and Tottenham are in good form, but those goals were Son’s first goal contributions of the season.

However, he does have an easy fixture vs a winless Sheffield United side this week and is predicted to return 7 points.

Erling Haaland vs West Ham (14.1)

Erling Haaland is once again the top captain pick this week with a predicted return of 8.1 points.

He is the top goalscorer in the league with six goals from four and has also provided one assist.

Manchester City take on a West Ham side who have been playing well this season, but the opposition rarely matters when it comes to Haaland, who scored a brace against the Hammers on his PL debut.
