Superstar winger Lionel Messi has set yet another record with his latest Champions League strike against Maccabi Haifa, overtaking his nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo in the process to do so.

Paris Saint Germain were in Champions League action on Wednesday evening as they travelled to Israel to take on minnows Maccabi Haifa, and the French champions fell behind in shock fashion as a defensive mixup saw Tjaronn Chery pounce and hand the home side a shock lead.

However, it did not last long. Just 13 minutes after they took the lead, PSG found a leveller, with a Kylian Mbappe cross taking a deflection, leaving Lionel Messi with an easy tap in from 6 yards out to restore parity, something that their dominance deserved at the very least.

And, with that goal, Messi scored against a 39th different side in the competition, something that he has achieved in 158 outings in the top European competition. In doing so, he overtook Cristiano Ronaldo, who has managed to score against 38 different sides in his 183 appearances.

Of course, Ronaldo will not be adding to his tally this season, barring a move away from Old Trafford in January, with Manchester United having begun their Europa League campaign last Thursday.

He will not have a chance to move further clear until PSG advance to the next stage, however, with the Argentine having already scored against Benfica and Juventus in seasons past.
