Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp have been handed a major boost in their aim for all three points against Newcastle on Wednesday night as Magpies boss Eddie Howe has confirmed that both Alan Saint-Maximin and Bruno Guimaraes are doubts for the trip to Anfield, having picked up knocks in their 1-1 draw with Wolves.

Saint-Maximin was taken off in the closing stages of the encounter at Molineux after visibly struggling to continue and holding his hamstring. While he did not go down the tunnel upon being withdrawn, his leg was heavily iced as his teammates sought a late winner.

Meanwhile, Guimaraes also picked up a hamstring injury that was identified after the game, and though Eddie Howe doesn’t expect either issue to be a long term one, both are doubts for this game, he admitted.
“He’s [Guimaraes] doing well”, he told the media. “I don’t know about this game coming up but, hopefully, not far after if he doesn’t make this game. He’s very positive, in good spirits, and desperate to get back involved. He’s a big player for us. We need to get him back as quickly as possible.”
Callum Wilson is also sidelined with a hamstring problem, which could lead to a debut for new record signing Alexander Isak, but only providing that the paperwork is completed in time, with Howe adding that he himself is unsure whether he will be able to call upon the Swede.
“I don’t know. I still don’t know. I hope so. I desperately hope so. It would be great to see him involved for us but we’re in the hands of other people. We desperately hoping that gets done before the game but there’s no guarantee at this point”, he explained.
