Liverpool got off to a desired three-point haul away from Anfield earlier tonight in a 3-1 Boxing Day win against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa as football returned to the Premier League after the extended international break, but Jürgen Klopp’s Reds look set to announce the new year with a bang after PSV Eindhoven confirmed the impending sale of 23-year-old Cody Gakpo.
Per The Times’ Paul Joyce, Liverpool pushed for the PSV Eindhoven star forward in the last 48 hours as the club looks to add quality to the forward line in a bid to push up the table and into the thick of the fight for Champions League football next season.
PSV and @LFC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo.
The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer.

Those reports have since been corroborated by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, detailing the club’s bid in the region of £37m with Gakpo now set to imminently travel for a medical, which football insider Fabrizio Romano also confirmed.
Liverpool will have done well to act decisively in the window on the back of Gakpo’s credible World Cup with the Netherlands which saw him score three goals in five appearances under Louis van Gaal, building on his immense at club level with PSV over the last few seasons that saw him catapult up the ladder as one of the most highly sought-after forwards on the continent.
With both Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota remaining on the treatment table and Liverpool still fighting both at home and abroad for major honors as well as in desperate need of a push in the Premier League as they remain well off the pace, Gakpo’s blend of goalscoring and creative ability could push the needle for the English giants if he hits the ground running should a move be completed.
