A surprising twist in the future of Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been revealed on Thursday evening.
This comes amid claims that the England international could ultimately be forced to stay put at Old Trafford for the season ahead.
The widespread assumption across the summer to date, of course, was that Henderson would be on the move once more, on the back of Andre Onana’s arrival on the red half of Manchester.
A number of clubs, in turn, expressed an interest in his signature, with Nottingham Forest, with whom the 26-year-old spent last season on loan, the long-standing favourites to get a deal done.
Henderson, for his part, is understood to be keen on another move, to assure his growth is not stunted by a season on the bench at Old Trafford.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then this could well be precisely what the England international is facing up to.
‘Dean Henderson could be marooned at Manchester United after Tom Heaton sustained an injury.’
Veteran shot-stopper Heaton, it is understood, is set for a spell of ‘weeks’ on the sidelines, after suffering a calf injury in training.
With Matej Kovar having agreed to take his talents to Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, and the Red Devils’ swoop for Zion Suzuki having fallen through, this could leave Erik ten Hag and co. with little choice but to keep hold of Henderson, at least for the first half of the campaign.
