Manchester City have released a statement following video footage circulated of young star Phil Foden and his family being abused at an event on Saturday night.

Foden and his teammates fell to a late defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the late kick-off of the Premier League, thanks to a brace from Harry Kane, who was of course keen to join the Citizens in the summer transfer window last year.

And, hours later, Foden was attending the boxing match between Amir Khan and Kell Brook with members of his family when he was abused by a group of men, who members of his entourage subsequently got into a fight with.

As the footage shows, it escalated from insults to someone throwing a fire extinguisher in approximately 90 seconds.

What the club said

‘The club is aware of a video which has circulated on social media showing Phil Foden and his family being harassed and abused’ a spokesperson said. ‘We are shocked and appalled about the nature of the abuse and ensuing assault on one of Phil’s family members.’

It remains to be seen just what the fallout of the footage will be.
