Manchester United have opened talks over a surprise £15m move for Wolfsburg midfielder Felix Nmecha, who was previously in the Manchester City academy.
The Red Devils are looking to rejuvenate their midfield this summer, with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro both now 31-years-old and the futures of Fred and Scott McTominay increasingly uncertain under Erik ten Hag amid interest from Fulham and Newcastle United respectively.
Marcel Sabitzer has returned to Bayern Munich after his loan spell with United ended, and there have been no signs of the club approaching the German giants over a potential permanent deal despite reports that he could be available for as little as £20m.

First on their wishlist is Chelsea’s Mason Mount, and the Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the England midfielder, though the two sides remain somewhat apart on their valuation of the star with United offering closer to £60m than the £80m which Mount’s current club are holding out for.
Beyond that, however, German outlet Sport1 report that United have also opened talks with Wolfsburg’s Nmecha, who has enjoyed a strong season with the Bundesliga side.
A midfielder capable of playing either as a no.8 or a no.10, Nmecha appeared 30 times for Wolfsburg, scoring three goals and grabbing three assists. His form caught the eye of Hansi Flick, and he was handed his full international debut in March against Belgium, before having to withdraw from the squad through injury for the upcoming internationals.
