England head coach Gareth Southgate has, late on Sunday, provided an update on the wellbeing of Manchester City star Phil Foden.
For those who may have missed it, attacker Foden was a late scratch from England’s latest matchday squad this evening.
This came as, in the buildup to an eventual 2-0 victory over Ukraine, it was revealed that the 22-year-old had been forced under the knife.
“Phil Foden has been ruled out of this evening’s EURO 2024 qualifier with Ukraine following surgery to remove his appendix this morning,” the FA confirmed.
Speaking after overseeing a 2nd successive win to open his side’s Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Foden’s situation was put to Gareth Southgate.
And England’s headmaster went on to reveal that getting the Man City star into surgery came as a source of relief across the Three Lions camp, after Foden exhibited concerning ‘symptoms’ over the last couple of days:
