Marc Cucurella has joked that recent events will not make him cut his hair, while he also opened up on joining Chelsea this summer in his first major interview as a Blue.

The Spaniard made his first start for Chelsea in the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur FC after signing from Brighton in a £62m deal.

But, he was the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons as he was seemingly fouled in the build up to Tottenham’s last minute equaliser, with Cristian Romero pulling on the locks of the Spaniard in the Chelsea penalty area, just before Harry Kane nodded home the equaliser.

Asked about avoiding a repeat of the incident via a trip to the hairdressers, the Spaniard was quick to shut it down, before going on to discuss the incident in greater detail.

“I’ll never get my hair cut. This is my style”, Cucurella told the media.

He continued: “Before the game, I spoke with him [Romero] and maybe it’s a fight on the pitch. I have no problem with him. It’s just one action in the game but maybe it was important because it changed the final result.”

“For me, yes [it is a foul] because it was clear. In the game, out on the pitch, I didn’t see the video. But I think with the video it is very clear. This is maybe one error to the referee or the VAR. But sometimes the referees make good decisions, sometimes not good decisions”, the Spaniard added.

“This is not my problem. The players are focused on the game and maybe we have to work hard to not concede this goal in the last minute in the next games.”

“The referee in the stadium said they were checking a red card and for me, it’s very clear. The video is very clear. At this moment, with the referee, I don’t know what happened.

“Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. This is football and in this game, it was an error. But in another game, the referee takes a good decision.”

Chelsea handed Cucurella promise

Meanwhile, Cucurella has promised to be at Stamford Bridge for a long time to come, as well as clarifying where the Blues faithful can expect to see him play after his move to the capital.

“The three positions on the left side is good for me. I think my best position is left-back because I play all my career in the academies in this position. I have more movements and I stay more comfortable. But if the gaffer puts me in another position, I run as well and I need to be good for the team”, he explained.

And he insisted that his contract had little bearing on his future, adding:

“It’s good because I’m not pressured, in my mind, it’s not like it’s a six-month deal or something; there’s a chance to play for the team and enjoy my football.

“Of course, a contract is only paper, but I’ve come here to stay for many more years.”
