Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has snubbed Tottenham in his predictions of who will fight it out for the title this season, claiming that Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal are set to be their main rivals for the top prize.
Last season quickly became a two-horse race, but was not settled until the final day of the season when Manchester City came from behind against Aston Villa to lift the trophy, clear of Salah’s side by a point after the final day.
And Salah expects it to be close again, only this time between more sides, despite the Egyptian’s slow start to the new season. He and Liverpool have taken two points from a possible six so far, courtesy of draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace, and now face what already feels like a must win game against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
“It’s always going to be a derby”, the Egyptian star told Sky Sports. “That competition between Liverpool and Manchester United is always going to be there because we’ve won the league a few times, they’ve won the league a few times. There’s always that competition between both teams and it’s going to be there forever because, history-wise, it’s the biggest two teams in England.”
Asked about who would be in the mix for the title, Salah overlooked serial winner Antonio Conte and Tottenham, opting instead for the rest of the traditional top six minus Manchester United.
“City, Chelsea, Arsenal are doing good,” Salah told Sky Sports. “Of course, I didn’t mention Liverpool because I always put us there. We want to win the Premier League. These three, with us, I think are going to be the competition.”
With Arsenal having won their opening three games and currently atop the Premier League table, clear by two points, their inclusion makes sense even though they missed out on top 4 football last season to Conte’s Spurs side.
Many predict Conte to leapfrog Arsenal again this season, with seven new signings joining an already strong squad that includes the likes of Cristian Romero, Harry Kane, Heung Min-Son and Hugo Lloris.
To leave them out is bold to say the least, especially while Chelsea look in disarray with just days left of the transfer window.
