Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of Ukrainian winger Mykhaylo Mudryk in the final days of the transfer window after being priced out of a move for Wolves forward Pedro Neto.

The Gunners are on the hunt for wide relief to Bukayo Saka, having loaned Nicolas Pepe to Nice for the season, and had identified the Wolves man as the perfect solution. However, Wolves were thought to be demanding in excess of £50m, something that Mikel Arteta and co. were unwilling to sanction.

As a result, they have begun talks for Mudryk, who has been described as the ‘Ukrainian Neymar’. Everton have already had one bid rebuffed for the winger, who is comfortable on either flank.

And according to CBS Sports, Shakhtar are holding out for £25m for their 21-year-old talent, with the clubs currently thought to be about £10m apart in their valuations of the teenager.

Mudryk himself has served to fuel the speculation, ‘liking’ a picture on a transfer rumours site linking him with a move to the Emirates, which describes personal terms with Arsenal as ‘easy’ to complete.

The Ukrainian winger has made 28 appearances in his fledgling career, netting twice and grabbing 10 assists. He was also handed his National team debut in June, and has gone on to make 5 appearances.

A midfielder to come in?

This follows the potentially long-term injury to Mohamed Elneny which, combined with Thomas Partey’s current issue, has left the Gunners light in midfield. Realistically, it has laid bare the fact that both right wing and central midfield are areas that needed strengthening this summer.

Both may not be possible though.
