Chelsea defender Reece James has penned a new contract with the Blues agreeing to a deal that will run until 2027, the club have confirmed, making him the highest-paid defender in the club’s history in the process.
The defender had already signed a long-term deal in 2020, but has agreed one on much better terms to reflect his increased importance to Thomas Tuchel’s side, with the former Wigan loanee now the hub of the Blues’ creativity.

The 22-year-old wing-back has made himself one of the first names on Thomas Tuchel’s teamsheet, and is perfectly comfortable at right centre-back in a back three. It is at wing-back that he truly thrives, however, with the Englishman a constant threat down the right flank when deployed there.
And James wasted no time discussing his happiness at Stamford Bridge, where he has been since he was six.
