Atalanta star Merih Demiral has taken to social media late on Saturday, to send a message of support to former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
The name of iconic hitman Ronaldo has of course taken its place centre stage in the headlines once more late this evening.
This comes after the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and home country Portugal were sent packing from the World Cup in remarkable fashion.
After putting Switzerland to the sword in comprehensive fashion in the Last-16, Fernando Santos’ troops were pitted against African outfit Morocco for a spot in the semi-finals.
Upon the final whistle sounding in Al Thumama, though, it was the latter who shocked the masses, emerging on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline to shatter Portugal’s World Cup dreams once more.

In the aftermath of the clash, it has since come as little surprise, as alluded to above, to see Cristiano Ronaldo widely discussed across the globe.
With long-time rival Lionel Messi, on the other hand, still alive and well in Qatar with Argentina, the GOAT debate has only continued to rumble on.
One individual, though, evidently of the opinion that Ronaldo’s premature exit from the World Cup should have little bearing on his overall legacy comes in the form of Merih Demiral.
Stopper Demiral, now of Atalanta, is a former teammate of Ronaldo, after the pair lined out alongside one another in Turin, with Juventus.
And the Turkish international, tonight, has moved to back CR7, in insisting both that ‘this changes nothing’ and ‘he is the GOAT’.
This changes nothing. He is the GOAT and will forever be. Hero of me and many of us. #Cristiano
