Chelsea fans have been handed positive news following their comfortable trip to Italy as it has emerged that Reece James’s injury is not as bad as first feared.

The defender was forced off with his side 2-0 up against AC Milan and, having gone down with a knee injury and trying, and failing to carry on, leaving some fearing the worst. Chelsea are no strangers to knee injuries, with Ben Chilwell on the opposite flank having suffered a season ending ACL injury last November, and the Englishman only just returning to full fitness.

But, speaking after the 3-0 win at the San Siro, helped by a questionable sending off of Fikayo Tomori in the first half, Graham Potter was in no rush to diagnose James, who was seen after the game walking around without any support attached to his knee, usually a positive sign.

“Reece, we’re hoping he’ll be ok. [We’ll need] 24-48 hours because it’s too early to tell you anything more than that”, the Chelsea boss explained.

James, meanwhile, took to Twitter to write: “Fingers crossed it’s not a bad one Love for all the messages, I appreciate you all”

Now, as per the Guardian, it is good news for Chelsea and England, with the right-back not having suffered as severe an injury as some feared, and Chelsea’s talisman set to be back before the World Cup.

This will not only come as a major boost for Chelsea, for whom James is the most important player in their side, but also for England, who are already preparing to be without Kyle Walker at the World Cup, and with Trent Alexander-Arnold woefully out of form.
