On-loan Arsenal talent Folarin Balogun was back on target once more on Sunday evening, in the process inching ever closer to making history in Ligue 1.
Hitman Balogun, of course, secured a fresh departure from The Emirates during last summer’s transfer window.
Despite a largely productive loan spell in the Championship with Middlesbrough over the 2nd half of last season, Mikel Arteta and co. evidently came to the conclusion that the England youth international was not yet ready to contribute on a weekly basis back in north London.
Balogun, in turn, was farmed out once more, on this occasion linking up with Ligue 1 outfit Stade de Reims.
And what a stint he has since gone on to enjoy in France.
After establishing himself amongst the frontrunners for the division’s top scorer accolade courtesy of 15 goals in his first 22 appearances of the term, the 21-year-old brought a brief dry spell in front of goal to an end a short time ago.

And, as alluded to above, in the process, the youngster inched ever closer to making history.
The current record for the most goals ever scored by an Englishman in a single Ligue 1 season is held by Tottenham Hotspur icon Glenn Hoddle.
Owing to his 16th of the campaign on Sunday, though, Balogun is now just two goals shy of matching Hoddle’s tally, with a full 11 games left to play.
Folarin Balogun is the first English player to score 16 goals in a Ligue 1 season since Glenn Hoddle in 1988/89.
Balogun has 11 matches left to overtake Hoddle’s tally of 18 and become the top-scoring Englishman in a single season in Ligue 1 history.https://t.co/cdL34N1ZZD pic.twitter.com/fLGQ52fuS8
