Destiny Udogie (Udinese)
Udogie and Udinese continued their strong start to the season as they beat title-hopefuls Inter Milan 3-1 to register their fifth straight victory, propelling themselves to third place in Serie A.
The Italian defender managed 80 minutes, winning four of his seven duels and one of his two tackles.
However, Udogie was left out of Roberto Mancini’s national team squad for the upcoming Nations League clashes, something that his manager took issue with.
Troy Parrott (Preston North End)
Parrott continues to be frustrated in front of goal for Preston this season, taking his tally to 10 Championship games without a goal for his loan side as they picked up 1 point from a possible 6.
The 20-year-old played 72 minutes in their 1-1 draw with Burnley, before being taken off 10 minutes from time in their 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United.
Despite his tough time in front of goal, Preston boss Ryan Lowe backed him to begin finding the net sooner rather than later.
You only have to look at Troy’s xG. Someone sent it to me the other day from social media and it’s fantastic; it’s just him converting them that can be a bit better”, he told LancsLive.
“But he is a baby, he’s 20-years-of-age, so at some point he is going to start hitting the back of the net – I have full confidence in him.”
“You see some of his finishes in training and they are phenomenal. I have no question that, at some point, he will score goals because he did it last season albeit it was in League One.”
Joe Rodon (Stade Rennais)
Rodon played in both of Rennes’ clashes over the past week, particularly impressing in their 1-1 draw with high-flying Marseille.
The Welshman won seven of his eight duels and 100% of his tackles, while he also managed 7 clearances and 3 blocks in a strong outing.
Dane Scarlett (Portsmouth)
Scarlett could not continue his goalscoring record for Pompey, drawing blanks against both Burton Albion and Plymouth Argyle. However, his talent remains evident, not least to his manager Danny Cowley.
“Dane is a fantastic young player. He has an unbelievable level of competence and as a consequence, has a real confidence in himself, and rightly so”, he told Sky Sports.
“I always think, with young players, however talented they are, they must make sure their work ethic matches their talent. Then if they can do that, they will achieve the potential that their talent deserves.
“Dane has to work exceptionally hard as a consequence of where his talent is at. But the fact that he loves the game and has such a desire to want to improve on a daily basis is great to see.
“It’s a privilege for Nicky and I to wake up every morning and work with a player of his quality.”
Tanguy Ndombele (Napoli)
Ndombele remains out of favour in Naples, coming on as a late substitute in both of their clashes this week. Thrown on for the final seven minutes in their Champions League clash with Rangers, the Frenchman nonetheless grabbed a goal in stoppage time.
His reward? A three-minute cameo as Napoli ran out 2-1 winners over AC Milan to move top of Serie A.
Alfie Whiteman (Degerfors)
Whiteman suffered a scare as he was kicked in the head just eight minutes into Degerfors’ 1-1 draw with AIK, forcing him off the field.
It was later revealed, however, that he was recovering well, and is expected to take his place between the posts once more for their next outing after the international break.
Giovani Lo Celso (Villareal)
Lo Celso was left out of the Conference League squad for Villarreal’s win over Hapoel Beer Sheva through injury, and though he returned for the La Liga clash with Sevilla, the Argentine international managed just 30 minutes before being substituted.
“After all week with certain doubts, he told me that he was ready to play, but it gave me the feeling that he wasn’t. It wasn’t a game to play at 60% or 70%. That was the only thing that I have seen that I did not like”, Unai Emery explained after the game.
Despite a muscle injury, he is expected to join up with the Albiceste over the upcoming international break.
Harry Winks (Sampdoria)
Winks is yet to make his debut for Sampdoria, and it does not sound as though it will be forthcoming in the near future either, with the Englishman having only managed just a single training session as of Friday.
“Since he arrived from Spurs, he only had one training session with us and nothing else”, Sampdoria boss Marco Giampaolo told the media.
“I hope he will be able to come back soon.”
But, he added, “I really don’t know when Harry will be available.”
