He’s broken plenty of records this season, but this one might elude him

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland broke the Premier League record for the most goals scored in a single season against West Ham, when he dinked the ball over Lukas Fabianski for his 35th strike of the campaign to help City to a 3-0 win over the Hammers.

The Norway star has taken the English top flight by storm since arriving from Borussia Dortmund over the summer, and he is spearheading Manchester City to their fifth Premier League title in six years, breaking records left right and centre.

His 35th Premier League goal was his 51st in all competitions, and with five Premier League games, an FA Cup final and at least two if not three Champions League games (results dependent), he has the potential to score plenty more.

So, what records can he still break?

Dixie Dean still no.1

In English top-flight history, Haaland still has some way to go.

As it stands, William Ralph “Dixie” Dean sits top of the list, with the Everton striker grabbing 63 goals in the 1927-28 season for the Toffees (60 in the top flight, and three in the FA Cup).

What about around Europe?

A glance across Europe suggests that there is still room for improvement too. Lionel Messi leads the way for most goals in a single season thanks to his famous 2011/12 campaign, where he bagged an outrageous 73 goals (50, yes FIFTY, coming in La Liga), while Gerd Muller sits second on 66 and even Cristiano Ronaldo managed 61 in 2014/15.

To break this record, Haaland would need to score 23 goals in 9 games. Not completely out of the realms of possibility for the goal-getting machine, but he may have left this one a little too late.
