How much has Erik ten Hag spent since taking over at Manchester United?

Manchester United are closing in on their third signing of the summer as it emerged that they have agreed a deal to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.

The 19-year-old will join the club for a fee worth 75m euros, plus a further 10m euros in performance-based add-ons, meaning that he will cost between £64m and £73m, as per the Athletic.

The Dane will become the third signing of the summer for Erik ten Hag’s side, following the arrivals of Mason Mount (£60m) and Andre Onana (47m) from Chelsea and Inter Milan respectively.

Their spending is not set to end there, but will now depend on sales following a second successive summer of big spending.

12 months ago, they spent over £200m in Ten Hag’s first summer on Casemiro, Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrel Malacia, taking their total spend since the Dutchman took over £350m.

Spending in the Premier League since Ten Hag took over

In the last three transfer windows, Chelsea have dwarfed the spending of every other club around Europe, having shelled out £535m (as per transfermarket) on over 20 players.

North London rivals Tottenham have splashed out £270m on the likes of Pedro Porro, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, while Liverpool sit next, with a total spend of £214m, though both sides are expected to add to that before the end of the transfer window.

Bringing up the rear despite signing Erling Haaland last summer, Pep Guardiola’s side have spent just £156m so far this summer, though that could soon skyrocket with a £100m move for Josko Gvardiol and a new winger both on the Cityzens’ wishlist.

With much of a spine now signed by Ten Hag, there will be plenty of expectation surrounding the Red Devils, who will be looking to go one better than last season’s top 4 finish and challenge for major silverware again this season.
