A truly worrying stat about Steven Gerrard’s time in charge of Aston Villa has come to light following their opening day defeat to AFC Bournemouth on the south coast.

The newly-promoted side opened the scoring after just 2 minutes when Jefferson Lerma found the back of the net, and doubled their lead 10 minutes from time courtesy of a header from Wales striker Kieffer Moore, who was making his Premier League debut.

Steven Gerrard has not yet been able to replicate the success that he had with Rangers at the midlands outfit, despite having been in charge for the best part of a season since he replaced Dean Smith.

The Villians finished a lowly 14th last season, winning just one of their final five games, and seem to have begun the new campaign in similarly worrying fashion.

Now, a worrying stat has emerged. As per Bet365, Gerrard now has the same win % as former England teammate Gary Neville did during his horrendous time in charge of La Liga side Valencia.

Of his first 28 games in charge, Gerrard has won just 10, losing 13 (46%) of his clashes in the Aston Villa dugout.

It would come as a surprise should Villa’s owners decide that a change of manager is necessary, having backed Gerrard to the tune of £55m with six new signings this summer.

However, he will need to start winning, and soon, to avoid the same mid-season P45 as his predecessor.
