Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has doubled down on the fact that he was forced off the pitch through injury in his side’s 6-1 humiliation against Newcastle United in wake of rumours that an argument with the manager saw him sidelined.
The Lilywhites travelled to the north east looking to pick up a three points that would override the gap between them and Eddie Howe’s side in the race for top four football.
However, it didn’t go to plan. Opting to field a back four for the first time in over a year, it backfired stupendously as the north London outfit conceded five times in the opening 21 minutes in front of a boisterous home crowd.
A change was made, bringing on Davinson Sanchez and returning to a back three, but the damage was already done and though they pulled one back in the second half, they fell to a 6-1 hammering.

Equally bizarrely was the decision to substitute goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who will feel that he could have done better with several of the goals. The Frenchman, and Tottenham’s captain, did not emerge for the second half, with Fraser Forster taking his spot between the sticks.
And rumours began to surface that a falling out at half-time had led to him being replaced, rather than the official line that he had picked up an injury.
“I don’t know, I think it’s a muscle,” he explained. “Around the hip I felt something on the long kick.
“It doesn’t sound good and we will see tomorrow after a scan.”
Tottenham face two massive clashes in the next seven days, welcoming Manchester United to north London before a trip to Liverpool in what could be an ugly week for their season.
And they may be without their captain.
