Cristiano Ronaldo comes into the 2022 World Cup break as one of the biggest news stories in the footballing world for all the wrong reasons as the Portuguese legend prepared to serve his country for likely the last time on the international stage after his recent controversial interview.

The 37-year-old iconic footballer sat down with English TV personality Piers Morgan in an eye-opening interview set to air this evening where Ronaldo did not hold back his opinion on the current state of affairs at Manchester United.

Ronaldo weighed in regarding his relationship with Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag, his feelings on criticism faced from former clubmate Wayne Rooney, his relationship with the Manchester United fans, and why he returned to Old Trafford for a second stint in the twilight of his career.

But for former Arsenal striker and Gunners legend Ian Wright, Ronaldo may be struggling to deal with his own demons as his retirement draws closer.

When discussing the situation on the podcast The Kelly and Wrighty Show, Wright stated “For him not to be able to deal with his career coming to an end – it happens to all of us, it happened to me – you do feel a sense of ‘is that it?’ It must be difficult for him and something he may need to seek counseling for.”

For a player that has truly transcended the beautiful game and will no doubt go down as one of the greatest players in football history, the question of what next may no doubt be praying on his mind, and his comments targeting Rooney regarding the fact that the England icon has already retired, but Ronaldo continues to play, come off as misguided and cling to what he has left on the pitch.
