Josko Gvardiol has kept his options open regarding his future as the RB Leipzig defender was quizzed on his next destination following Croatia’s progression to the round of 16.

The 20-year-old starred as his side came through the group stages undefeated, with a 1-0 win over 2nd in the World side Belgium setting up a tie with Japan in the knockout rounds.

Domestically, however, his future is up in the air, with Gvardiol strongly linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer as part of Todd Boehly’s summer spending spree after taking over in May.

A move never materialised, though, and Gvardiol penned a new deal with Leipzig taking him until 2027, though it is widely expected that he will move on this summer.

And Chelsea remain interested, something that Gvardiol was quizzed on after his side’s victory over Belgium.

“Chelsea is a big club, maybe one day I will be there…”, he told the media.

The Blues are not the only potential destination, however, with plenty of Europe’s elite clubs keen on the left-footed defender should he become available next summer.

And Real Madrid are one of those credited with an interest, with Los Blancos currently lacking a left-footed defender to provide cover for David Alaba in their ranks.

Gvardiol was quizzed on said interest, and refused to shut the door on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu either.

“Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to play there. I’d like it”, he explained.

“Modric doesn’t have to tell me anything, not needed – I know how special is to be linked with Real Madrid”.

Should he depart this summer, he is expected to cost upwards of £60m, but could provide his next club with a centre-back for the next decade.
