Liverpool got back to winning ways with what turned out to be a comfortable 2-0 win over Wolves and move to within six points of a Champions League spot courtesy of goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side began the game in the ascendency against the side that had handed them a 3-0 hammering just three and a half weeks ago, but were kept out by a resolute Wolves defence as Harvey Elliot and Darwin Nunez went close, meaning that the two sides headed into the break goalless.

Things were looking to be going against the home side when an effort from Darwin Nunez was seemingly harshly ruled out by VAR, but a header from captain Virgil Van Dijk steered them towards victory, and three points were sealed when Mo Salah wriggled away to slot home a second, and hand Liverpool their third win in six games.

After a tricky season to date, results above them have suddenly painted a rosier picture for the Reds, who are now just six points behind Tottenham in fourth place and the final Champions League spot, a deficit that Klopp’s side can cut to three should they win their game in hand over the Lilywhites.
